The MacCallum House, built in 1882 by William Kelley, was a wedding gift to his daughter Daisy MacCallum, and is a historic landmark in the center of Mendocino. Surrounded by lush gardens and expansive lawns, our main property has nineteen rooms as well as our acclaimed restaurant and bar. Her daughter, Jean, was born at Glen Blair, and Daisy started her lifelong interest in horticulture. She loved roses, and again got the newspaper's attention for the "thousands of beautiful" blossoms in her garden at Glen Blair. A Chef's Garden contains herbs and edible flowers, whose leaves and blossoms grace the dishes in the restaurant. She suffered from a spinal injury in a childhood accident. She was bedridden for some years and then in a wheelchair.

In the rainy seasons, the mill slowed down, and the young family would live in San Francisco.
